MILITARY HANDGUNS

AUSTRIAN Model 1908 Pieper semiautomatic pistol # 47859 (.32 ACP), mfg. at Steyr in c.1911.   Fair condition with basically zero bluing remaining, external metal has been harshly cleaned, inscriptions faint but legible. Bore is dark and rough with prominent lands and grooves, no magazine, grips are home-made wood with finger-grooves carved in them.  Since this pistol has a hinged barrel it can be fired in single-shot mode and is actually still functional (without a magazine) if not very pretty.  The magazine actually had two notches in the back, the top notch retained the magazine in the well but did not allow the top round to be stripped from the magazine (much like the magazine-cutoffs common in rifles of the time), the bottom notch seated the magazine further up so subsequent rounds could be fed from the magazine into the chamber. A neat design, scarce, not import-marked. PHOTO . . . $125.   C&R     SOLD
