The first M39 was made in 1941 so what's the deal? Well, this serial # is in the 1970-date range, and I theorize that the date on this particular rifle was supposed to be 1973 except the fella actually doing the stamping had a vodka hangover-induced dyslexic moment when putting together the date-stamp and this is the result. Regardless of HOW it happened, it is nonetheless extremely interesting, and absolutely wonderful to see it on one of the nicest M39 rifles I have ever had the pleasure to hold in my hand.
