GERMAN Model Gewehr 98 bolt-action infantry rifle # 2684f (8x57mm) mfg. by V. Chr. Schilling in 1918.  Poor to Fair condition, this obviously went to CHINA and has had a rough life. No matching serial numbers, has browned eroded metal surfaces and, aside from the intact rollercoaster rear sight (that doesn't lock), doesn't have much to recommend it. Bore is very worn and dark, right side of stock has two large oval and one smaller round cartouches containing blurred Chinese characters. Front band-spring and cleaning rod missing, sling swivels are makeshift, safety needs adjusting, else complete and functional.  If cleaned up a bit it could make a decent-looking inexpensive rifle for WWI re-enacting, but don't buy this expecting a shooter. Not import marked. PHOTOS . . . $275.      C&R     SOLD

GERMAN Model 98k bolt-action rifle # 577 (8mm) having TWO DEATH-HEAD marking (totenkopf, one with runic SS letters and the second with runic SS letters plus number 2 above) on left barrel-shank.  This was originally a WWI-era Gewehr 98 made by uncertain manufacturer (top markings scrubbed, as usual) and reconfigured to the 98k configuration by the SS in December 1939 (marked as such under barrel).  Good to Very Good condition, with little original external bluing remaining.  Bolt (and all bolt parts) numbered 6356, remainder of parts mismatched (as can be expected). Bore was full of thick grease, but has cleaned up and is bright and strong, import-marked on right side of barrel. Laminated stock has quite a few handling-marks and scuffs in the finish and a flat buttplate.  A genuine operable Waffen SS rifle, authenticity of markings guaranteed, very rare. PHOTOS . . . $1750.   C&R   SOLD

Features flat buttplate, original cleaning-rod and is functional if not pretty.  PHOTO . . . $625.   C&R    SOLD
